Tokyo Earthquake! - 05-07-2008, 04:52 PM

Wow, a few earthquakes in a row tonight in Tokyo. One is normal, but there must have been at least three in the last hour - and a couple of them seemed quite large.

Anyone else in Tokyo feel those?

6.8 richter; 161km ENE of Tokyo (off the east coast of Honshu).
That's a significant quake, but there is no Tsunami warning.

Could you feel it in Texas?

No damage or injuries reported... hopefully this justifies the job I (and many others) are doing haha

I felt it though... woke me up and the whole place was shaking a little!

Even if it shook here we wouldn't have noticed it while trying to walk with 25-40 mph headwinds today.

Fortunately the only quake I ever experienced was a minor one in San Francisco. I fell to the floor during a tap dance recital, we all looked around for a few seconds and resumed.

I've never experienced a real earthquake before and I kind of hope I never do. We did have one here a few years ago, but it was so minor, most didn't even feel it. I didn't know we had one til I turned on the news. lol

Woot!

I was typing an email out and was just about to hit send when something felt wrong. The walls were not lined up anymore and my brain was sending out bad signals and then the quake kicked in WOOT! It was awesome and lasted for ages.

I jumped up on the bed opened the window and shoved my head out, I could see lights coming on everywhere and the lines of the buildings were shifting, AWESOME! I was in a full on quake. I had felt a few of the smaller ones earlier and one a few weeks back but this was the shit man. Everything was moving and stuff in my room was hitting the floor, the walls were not straight and my brain was sending confused balance information. WOOOOHOOOO!

I really enjoyed it and am glad it happened while I was here and that no-one was hurt.

AWESOME!

Ps. Reason they happen at night is because the gravity of the moon causes the pressure on the fault to be lifted enough for the fault to fail.
