I need to visit Japan first, but I have had my sights on Tokyo for a long time. Because there is lots to do there, I guess, and I'm a country girl, Tokyo especially sounds exciting for meh

If choosing (without a visit), I'd have to say someplace close to Sapporo. The main reason is for the weather/climate (it gets hot in Hokkaido, but not as bad as other places there, to my knowledge), and also because of the fact that there aren't as many insects (which creeps me out) that far up north compared to down south. I also like cold weather and I like getting bundled up for winter weather.

I like the Kansai area, as it is centrally located, allowing you to take trips east and west. There is a lot to see and do within a relatively short distance.

I'd choose a small city that is fairly close to a bigger city, so that I can visit and shop there when needed, yet still go back to the friendly, less expensive, less crowded smaller town at night.

Since I lived in Wakayama-ken for 2 years, it'd be nice to go back there, see what's new and visit my old haunts again, and it meets all the criteria above, so...

Hokkaido, interesting. Does anyone know if the North Koreans plan to test anymore missiles in that region?

I agree with Samurai007, but you are going to hear names of cities you aren't familiar with.

I like Amagasaki, but also Nishinomiya, which is a little cleaner. Both are located between Osaka and Kobe, two of my favoirite cities.
