A lot of the time they will have parades with the Kamisama (spirit or god) or of each district of a town. They do this to please the Kamisama so that it will continue to bring good luck, they do this not out of tradition but becasue they really think it will help ( I thing this way too) sorry thats a close to supernatural as i can get. Yeah.. like vengeful spirits and stuff.. I saw on discovery that "Ring" was based on a famous ancient story of a vengeful female spirit.. O_O apart from Korea, Japan sure does have some of the scariest illustrations of ghosts.. X_X also, their rituals... Not very sure about them yet.. What do foreigners normally consider these rituals as? Does this sorta supertition still have a place in modern Japan..?

I read somewhere that the Japanese view sex essentially as an entertainment commodity. Could this possibly have anything to do with the nature of the country's predominant religions (Shinto and Buddhism)? Supposedly these religions do not have any particular doctrines or moral standpoints with regard to what's "right and wrong" in sex.

I heard that Japanese are not religios so i dont know why they would believe in ghosts or have beliefes about sex based on religion.
People keep telling me that Japanese dont care much about nudity but i think this just applies to the same sex. Like, at public bath houses or onsens its only the same sex that can see eachother naked (unless its mixed bathing, but i think thats somewhat rare). I have heard alot about censoring like it used to be that you werent aloud to draw pubic hair in Manga. I guess it was pre-hentai...also i have heard about Manga like "Rape Man" "Koroshiya Ichi" and anime like "Midori" being banned. Oh, and by the way im not a pervert i just wanna know... |

They do because most of the time it is out in the open. It isn't exactly like behind the counters or anything. I walked into the convenience store one time and one of my students was standing by the rack just flipping through one of the magazines. "Kenta, shouldn't you be studying English?"

I don't know.. I've seen on tv the rituals and traditions that are still being practised in modern day Japan.. The Japanese have been also making effort to retain their lifelong traditions.. Yes, religion is not = to tradition, but usually, religions tend to go hand in hand with traditions.

I think they just practice tradion because they want to keep the asian feel of the countrie alive even when its so modern and western. Also because its fun.
Maybe Japanese do tend to believe in supernatural stuff but they just dont have the time to practice....it is a very busy place after all. |
