In other words, instead of old men sitting around trading theories, why not ask those who really do have the power to increase the population to do their best.

If you ignore his wording, I think what he said is very accurate, and is in fact empowering to women as he refers to them as the ones with the power, and refers to asking/begging them to do their best.
and i who always thought, making a child, giving birth to it and raising it was the responsibility of the two parents. seems a bit one sided to only reach out to one side.

i'm sry but i don't see him saying functional wombs with willing owners.

You`re still taking things out of context. He was saying that instead of men sitting around there debating and coming up with schemes about making more children... They have NO POWER ALONE to create them. They alone cannot give birth, nor can they make the choice alone to have children or not. In the end, that power and choice lies in the hands of women - and as there are limited numbers of "equipment" for making babies, the best we can do is to ask women to do their best as men lack that equipment.

He doesn`t say that in the original speech, at least not at that part. He is challenged on the statement, and clarifies a bit later - and then made countless apologies later explaining what he meant. Which, in the context of the REST of the speech, makes sense.

Either way, I`m sure that if I wanted to waste the time I could find countless examples of wording gaffes made by those in power in ANY country out there. This was a HUGE issue in Japan. Those offended didn`t just sit there are say "Well, that`s just the way it is." - No, they gathered and had big events. I think the popular reaction says a LOT more about a country than the poor wording choices of someone in the government.

ETA; The media persecution of this guy is a major pet peeve of mine, being as he was one of the main people pushing for reforms that would be incredibly positive for families and mothers. He was pushing for assistance programs that would give money during pregnancy, prior to the birth. Now, all the financial assistance comes after the baby is born and after you`ve paid out of pocket for everything. The speech (or rather discussion) itself was about making changes to make having a child more appealing to women as in the end, they have the final say. Yes, it takes two to raise a child, but no matter how much a man wants to have a baby he cannot force his wife to get pregnant if she doesn`t want to. And as it is women who traditionally manage the household finances, they are the ones who feel the economic stress more directly and acutely than their husbands - and in turn are choosing not to have children. Alleviate some of those issues, and you`ll alleviate a big chunk of the population decrease...
But no, now no one will take the guy seriously - despite how much he was working toward extremely positive programs - because the media decided to snap up on one little wording gaffe in one small somewhat informal discussion.

Christmas cake because it's after the 25th. Because guys want to mary a young woman. Would you rather mary a 25 year-old or a 45 year-old?
Some people may find this a harsh statement, but human biology is what it is.

Different countries, different cultures. But that is an old saying. The marriage age has been raising steadily over the last 10 years. It's probably closer to 27 now and 28-30 has become less than out of the ordinary.

You'll understand someday

Most young people in Japan today would not be familiar with the term "Christmas Cake" for a girl over 25, as many women wait much longer to get married than they did a generation ago.

Yes, both parents have that role. But there is no doubting that women are usually more successfull at nurturing. The psychology and body chemistry is there from actually carrying the child to nursing. If you notice, little boys often play with things and manipulate toys oblivious to the world around. Little girls more often play by interracting with people. If you give a baby girl a toy truck she will treat it like it has a personality and cary it and put it to sleep with a blanket. A boy will drag that truck through the mud.

Of course both parents have responsibilites but they play different roles, which is why there are two sexes and why it's good to have one of each in the house.

Yeh theres a lot of bad shit in japan. And they are really racist over here...Guys mostly especially if u have a japanese girlfriend. Also they will rip you off if they get the chance although im working a part time job i dont get paid as much as the japanese people who work with me.

and can people stop saying gai-jin is a good word its not....Gai-jin means outcast not Foreigner. Daikoku-jin means Foreigner. So for that idiot to thinks being called a Kakoi Gai-jin (Kool Outcast) is a good thing think again(thats like saying your a kool loser -_-). And if you watch the telivision closely they won't call and Foriegners gaijin because its like us calling them nips or ching chongs or wateva other racial slurs you can call asians.

I constantly hear businessmen whisper under their voice to me Kurosu, or Shin-de when they walk past me or sit near me. Which means just die or i would kill you. So yeh and also their economies real shit at the moment so everythings expensive and if your wanting to work here forget it you have to do 7 hour days for like $30 its fucked.

Although if you goto the country side its much better people will actually take you in if you have no money and or accomidation and the women will stalk you pretty much (in a really shy cute way ofcourse) its scary but a good thing i guess.

Also the suicide rate in japan is the second highest in the world because of the amount of stress that most people have to go through to survive in this society so if you don't see many emos roaming around thats why. Also people don't really care if you kill yourself over here their moto is if you want to be a fool then you can be a fool and kill yourself.

If you find a japanese person who speaks another language they're normally the ones who like forieghners if not forget it.

Being as people simply do NOT walk around saying those things - even if they really did express that sentiment, they`d used different words - it sounds like you have some serious issues, sir.

This is one of those classic stages of the paranoid foreigner in Japan. Assuming everyone is talking about them, and hearing the few insulting words of Japanese they know in everyone`s speech.

Get a grip - You`re not so important that everyone around is whining about you. Learn the language well, and you`d probably realize this. Most people simply do not care at all.
