Wow, I didn't read everything on this thread (I will soon when I have time) but after reading some, I am really reconsidering about moving to Japan. Right now I'm thinking about saving up and moving there after college, but I am still uncertain about what kind of job. Thanks everyone for all your input. It really helped me think about whether I should go live in Japan at age 22 or stay in the United States. I want to know early if I really want to go or not so I can start early by learning the culture and law there, and learn what I need to do to get a good job there.
Do they immediately know you're a foreigner by your skin color? I'm asian and I think I can blend in well, but I'm rather dark, even my own "kind" don't think I'm asian. They think I'm mexican. But I do look asian. I see that Japanese have light skin, and Korean too. |

Gloobey,
I have to agree with Nyororin, you are applying personal anecdotes to the nation as a whole as if it is the same from end to end. I noticed you keep saying "they" when you refer to Japanese people; that's the kind of umbrella term as "gaijin". I currently live in a small village in Nagano and have a very different perspective from the one you are spewing all over this list. You can read more about this specific part of Japan on my blog. I think you need to be a bit more critical in your thinking and look at the variation in the country instead of lumping the entire population together as "they". There are bad aspects of Japan, but that's the same anywhere you go--Gloobey's proved that people in the U.K. can be just as intolerant. |

but if you look asian they might not tell by the colour of your skin, it could be more the facial features and height oh and there are japanese people who have quite dark skin |
