I can see how that would be the hardest part of the application. I guess on one hand you want to tell them what they want to hear, but on the other hand you want to stand out from everyone else telling them what they want to hear... It's been forever since I've had to write an essay, so this will be interesting.

I'm an alternate out of the NYC office...while it's certainly not the worse news in the world, this period of being in limbo *really* sucks. Also, I've heard one too many times that there's a record number of applicants this year, they expect more people then ever to re-contract, and it seems the amount of people short-listed is relatively low, and they expect less people then normal to deny their shortlist acceptance.

Despite all this, I'm still keeping myself on the list and hoping for the best. Here's to hoping!

Aw, good luck! I'm sure plenty of people will back out once they find out how far from Tokyo/Osaka/Kyoto they will be Do you know if you're near the top of the list, or are you in the dark about your chances?

What are you going to do if you don't get upgraded? Been meaning to ask that and curious as to how you did on the JLPT. Forgot to ask that after getting the results.

I reckon if I don't get in I'll just apply with private companies; this is something I want to do within the next couple of years. Nothing seems to really compare to what JET provides though, which is a pity!

I am quite happy with the dispatch company I work for. I would prefer, just because I can be somewhat full of my own self-importance, to be a direct hire, but so far I have no negative experiences to regale people with.

What's your company?

I'm still in high school, but I really want to do JET after I get my BA. But it says that I can't apply if I have Japanese citizenship. I have a dual citizenship with the US and Japan, and I don't want to lose the Japan one because of this...

I would rather not say, but I am sure some cursory research online would reveal it.
