Asian Intelligence???????? - 10-13-2008, 03:31 PM

Ok, first off, I'm not racist. But I have to know, why do Asians have such a reputation for being smart? They get really high test scores and I've always wondered why. It has to be something about the way they teach in Asia, but what? I know not everyone in Japan/Asia is a genius, but why do are the majority of them so smart?

Because of their families. Also Africans (afro-arabs also) and South-Americans need to included ... its because of the hardships back-home and its shameful to fail and be second best

Plus the education system is extremely better than the west ... western system is really easy compared to 3rd-world
another...
The reason is Corporal punishment and Cultural discipline

It's just another stereotype. The positive ones are stereotypes, just like the negative ones. The stereotype probably arises from the value that asian families place on education.

*Grabs his pipe and sits in a very large chair by the fire.*

Simple.

Observe the time zone you're in. Compare it closly to the time zone that Japan occupies. You'll notice that Japan is a day ahead, and the surrounding countries aren't too far off either.

They are considered smart because they are always in the future.

*hangs head in shame*

seriously man, stop making generalisations. It's not all true, you only notice the ones that are smart because thats how they stand out. How about other asians, the ones that are average. Im one of those. Its just that we dont stand out as much.

But i get what you're saying, but with Japanese and Korean and the chinese system[from what i know] they have punishments. The japanese education system is the most difficult in the world.

Asian education systems are really strict.

we're not allowed to use calculators for anything, we have to do the math mentally.

they have these ridiculous rules when taking tests, too. like, you can't use pencils, you have to use a pen. & for every mistake you have or things you cross out, you get points off for being "messy".

& then they give you less time to complete exams than an average person would so you have no choice but to be faster.

*shrug* go figure.

But to despair was to wish back for something already lost.
Or to prolong what was already unbearable.

In a way I am jealous!!
I know it sounds kind of stupid, but I think schools over here America should be a little more strict on teaching like overseas. I know it's not to those who deal with the tight discipline, & wishes it was vice versa. But I think (that's right IMO!) America would do a lot better if they were stricter.

I know how the no calculators thing works...my math teacher doesn't like us using calculators and since everyone forgets to bring one, she'll hide hers and say she doesn't have any.
