Late autumn, definitely after September. I hear the place is a sauna during much of autumn.
I would say spring, but I was in Narita last spring and it rained cats and dogs. Maybe it was just the wrong time... heh, I'm not surprised to see spring is winning by far; but as Kitsuneko has said; it's most likely to rain then; and the cherry blossoms only go on for a week of so; autumn i liked for the entire visit; he natural beauty was astounding. i think I'd defiantly go then. less tourists then too ^^

I don´t really know but i think it´s springtime because then the cherry blossoms bloom^^
Edit: Ok i just read some answers here^^ I didn´t knew the cherry blossoms only bloom for 1 week then it´s autumn then get the leaves red-brown-yellow. I think it looks beautyfull to see all the trees turn so on the mountains^^When they are shot through the heart by the bullet of a pistol? No. When they are ravaged by an incurable disease? I really want to go to Tokyo and somewhere in Hokkaido during the winter. During the summer, I want to go to Osaka and in the spring Tokyo and Kyoto. Fall... meh. I don't like autumn in general.

mm but straight after teh cherry blossom festival its rainy season so yeh...be careful...if yah wanna see snow goto Kyoto the temples look awsome with snow on them :P and the Ramen there omfg best in japan...Tokyo tends to be a bit insane all of the time....so if you like that and dont prefer peace and tranquility then yeh enjoy :P
