They have no interest in my culture, they have no interest in working for the opportunity to visit my country. They want to push "the easy button." I'm sure there are plenty of people here who worked hard, stuidied the language and customs, and I respect that. Hell my friend Al is the most spoiled guy I know and he worked his ass off for the opportunity to stay in Japan, because it's a privilege to visit Japan not a right. I love my country, and I think they should put real effort into visiting it.
I think you are jumping to conclusions, and should give people a chance to explain themselves. A lot of the posters here are young and just don't know what it takes to go to Japan. This is Japan Forum, so let's be supportive.

Instead of asking why, and giving the kid a chance to explain himself he was pounced on like he was attacked by hyenas. Considering that's the same support he seems to get from home, I doubt he'll ever post again, and may give up on his dream, as even at JF he can't get fellow Japan-lovers to give him an ounce of support?

What are my thoughts?

I am curious which part of Japan MutsuYakumo is from.

Dreamsandhopes, how old are you? What exactly is the fascination with Japan?

It's always nice to have dreams but if your dreams are based on smoke and mirrors, you're only going to disappoint yourself while wasting several precious years of your life.

I don't care if he isnt from japan, he makes me lol and makes sense.

Topic: When i started to learn to skateboard, people told me it was a pointless sport and i'd never be any good at it, ya know what happend MMM? I tried harder, and harder to disprove them.

Sometimes negative feedback can work out the best.

Girl: i like naruto sugoipocky can we be friends?
JF: yes ofcourse welcome to japan. are you studying our language?
Girl: nope! neko!
JF: doesnt matter, we will do all the hard work for you, go tell all your other friends how you have kawaii japanese friends and invite them here.
Girl: yartar!

Me/Keaton/Captain: go screw, you'll never fit in here!

6 months later

girl: hi guys, can you help me with my japanese learning?
JF: sure, whats your problem?
girl: explain -te forms of verbs and their usage please.
JF: no problem, good luck when your out in japan..

Maybe.. just maybe.. ya know?

This is where you're wrong there were plenty of people who decided to tell him what he wants to hear. I told him the truth, and if he loved Japan so much he would take my advise and start making plans. Read what I have posted instead of inferring that I only wanted to attack this kid.

I am from the Kita (キタ) ward in Northern Osaka, but I live in America.

Is getting to Japan hard? Of course it is. Is it impossible? Obviously not, because thousands of people do it every day.

MutsuYakumo, you came in swinging, and I am just calling you on that. There is a growing wave (not just you) of people that like to cut down people with a dream of going to Japan. Until now, our idea has been to explain the ways, give a reality check, and encourage the poster to work on what he needs to do to make that dream come alive. What we don't need to do is insult and start calling names (I am talking to everyone here). You have special knowledge that can be really useful here, and we can use all the Japanese intelligence we can get. I hope you can focus that energy toward positive things.

When did you move to America. I lived very close to 北区 for a few years and visit 梅田 every time I go back.

It's fine to challenge him on his position, and what he says, but I can't let you try to put my friend's (who's like a brother) personal life on the spot. I believe in this kid and think that he should go for his dreams, but he put his self out there and asked for other people's opinions. Yakumo simply supplied dreamsandhopes request. I would suggest you lay off of my friend's personal life and stick to the topic at hand. I don't care how young this kid is, I'm sure he's old enough to know that life isn't always going to tell you something to make you feel good.

Listen if this kid wants real information then he would go out and look for it. When you just give a kid like this information he won't appreciate it as a matter of fact he'll take it for granted, and if he makes it to Japan off of advise of others he would have to continue to look to others for help. If he goes out and look for information we would cherish it because it took hard work and not just been given to him, and he'll be more independent. It's simply nature vs. nurture.

I moved here when I was a kid. Umeda, yeah I hear there is some good shopping there, I hope you enjoy it. But this isn't about me, so let's stay on the real topic. If you want to know more about me PM me. Honestly I'm not really interested in your life story but takes anyway.

And if you're having problems with other people take it up with them. Don't put me on the spot, maybe it's the people who worked hard that are tired of people who wants to half ass it. Take that into consideration.
