How would this be any different than for a guy taking a dump? You still have to be in the same position...

I never actually used one but they were only in the school that I went to and at the airports I went to, Haneda and Narita, but not in my host family's house.

Err.... I don`t really have that problem.
Just control the flow so that you don`t spray. I think that`s what makes it feel like it takes twice as long on one of those toilets, because you sort of have to pay attention to what you`re doing instead of just "letting go".

Ah squat toilets. I had to use them in China since in most places there weren't any Western toilets available, and they really aren't fun. It doesn't take too much to figure out how to use them (and not make a mess) though.

I managed to avoid them in Japan since there were enough Western toilets around, but I only really went to touristy areas. I heard in country areas the squatting toilets are a lot more common?

I'll pass. And I'll also pass on the intricate details that everyone's so fond of getting into.

What a way to wake up on a Tuesday morning.

They have been long known as "Turkish toilets", and they are probably the most common type of toilet in the world.

They are the only type of toilet to be found at my school, and they are also the norm at older train stations, public parks, and countless other places. I don't prefer one over the other, having lived and worked in places where there were no toilets whatsoever.

My toilet at home is a very nice sit-down model which is equipped with a "washlet". It has a heated seat and a built in bidet, which can be adjusted for water temperature, pressure, and spray pattern. Pretty trick.

'Cause that'd be worth the investment.
