I'd certainly make sure you get a supply of vicodin before you go, then, just to be sure. It's also worth (I always recommend this) learning Japanese phrases specific to your medical needs, or having something translated and written down that you can show doctors in Japan if the need arises.

yea i feel you on that, plus by the time i go, i should be fluent in japanese, ill still be a little sucky in kanji tho, but if i can speak japanese ill just ask the questions needed, but ill just take meds with me just in case i do get sick, cus weather there and here where i stay (georgia) are completely different, its 84 deg here and its 61 deg there....i usually only get sick if i do, in the winter, quick changes in temperature and trigger it, like going from being warm in the house to being cold if i were to go outside without proper layers..its real inconvenient cus i love winter (mostly for fashion reasons lol jackets and boots) but yea, thas wat it iz...all in all, sickle cell sucks, be glad u dont have it, but im more fortunate than others so i dont let it bother me

I think Japan is just like any other country,
you have humans living in it, and some humans are idiots, so yes of course you might find people against black people, but you just have to ignore it, even if sometimes you find it hard.

Whoa?! Japanese = humans? jk no flaming por favor.
I think the border of racism is high in Japan. With that I mean that I think that Japanese people aren't racist in general. I think being black is not that much of an issue, I guess it's more whether or not youre Japanese.

There's always that possibility that one could be disrespectful without even realizing it.

I remember reading this girl's online journal years ago. She visited her friend in Japan. During her entire stay there, her friend's mother only served pizza because she thought that was what "Americans liked". Okay, bad example since it's not really "disrespectful", but I just thought it was a cute story nonetheless.

lmao
yea thats not disrespectful
id think pretty highly of that girls mother because she went out of her way to serve food that she doesnt normally eat every night because she thought it was something i would want. thats an example of how respectful japanese ppl are, lol, i get it tho!

anyways, you cant tell by looking at my avatar, but i am in fact african american (mixed with native american but you would only see a black person if i didnt tell u lol)
i have a question to ask all those that are living in Japan
can anybody tell me how black ppl are perceived in Japan, all those who live in america know the history around black in the states, and yes throughout my 21 years of living from the time i was 6 to even know ive had my fair share of racism towards myself. i know there is racism throughout the world, im not worried about the rest of the world though, i would just like to know if even in japan is there a bit of prejudice towards african americans, or is it just the fact i am american...
anyways, this might sound like a stupid question, i know theres racism every but i just want to know what its like since i dont live there at all.
let me know, and BE REAL about it!
I wouldn't worry too much about it.
Prejudice exists in every country, but Japan isn't like 1950s Alabama.

People may be curious so try not to get the wrong idea if someone glances over, its just because of all foreigners in Japan there aren't that many people of African heritage living there.

Also if you look at Japan's history compared to the us, Japan never had African slaves, or racial segregation.
And people of African heritage didn't first arrive in Japan until post-WW2.

So chill out man its alright

You don't get my point, what I mean by ignoring someone that seems to pick on you just because you're black or what ever, its to dont get in trouble, instead of going into a fight just because he says something nasty to you or anything like that, just follow your way, and dont give attention to him.
I know it is hard to ignore it, because even I have problems with people being racist to me, and Im not even black...But what I try to do is to dont show them that they hurt me, that's what they want, to hurt you...
