What troubled me most is the fact that he says he used New York as the base city and the basing his results off of New York. If you try to live the American lifestyle in Japan, your going to spend a fortune. If you want to go out have a big steak with potatoes your going to be broke in a week. Now I didn't see all of the list because my comp was going to slow. But I can tell you, I almost went to Tokyo and las vegas back to back, and Vegas cost way more than Tokyo. besides the cost of living, which im not sure of, las Vegas costs a fortune. This has nothing to do with gambling either, Im just talking about food, drink, entertainment, and transportation. I spent twice as much in Vegas, and Im not even sure if it was on that list. But with or with out this list, Tokyo isnt cheap.

It depends on the situation. You become an employee of your prefecture's ministry of education, so everyone is a little different. I lived in Hyogo, and they paid half of the rent. My rent was 65,000 a month, and I paid half that.

I see. Do they choose what home you are going to stay, or can you look for cheaper homes in that area?

You generally move into the apartment of your predecessor, taking over their rent. While you may be able to move, it can be a very big, expensive hassle which your school and supervisor may not appreciate, assuming you can find someone that will rent to you.

I paid 60,000 per month rent, and had to pay all of it myself.

how much did you earned, if you dont mind? Was it enough to pay for your home, or did you have to do other things to help you pay?

A home is found for you by JET. I don't know about AEON. Like samurai said, you are taking over the home of the previous teacher, assuming you aren't the first.

My school signed a lease for me, so moving would have been greatly discouraged...or in other words, out of the question.

Like all JETs, my gross pay was 300,000 per month, so I had plenty to live on and even saved a good deal of money, despite traveling all over Japan.

From what I read, AEON pays for you home. I could be wrong.
