[quote=Nathan;774300]Ah yes, the CoE. That was what took the longest for me, a couple months from start to finish I believe. I can't remember exactly, its been a while. However, I was also in Canada for the whole process.
[quote] Yeah, they said at least 1 month, up to 3 months. My landing permit is only 90 days so unless they hustle up this could get expensive ![]() Quote:

高い!金持ちだったね~ (at least I think that's how it was spelled)
I wasn't aware that America doesn't have a working-holiday visa. Silly Americans, when will you catch up with the times! Temporary immigration/emigration isn't so bad! In so far as 'other visas', you'd have to bring something to the table the company couldn't get from a native Japanese for them to even consider sponsoring you. Hence why most English-speakers are there on 'Specialist in Humanitarian Services' visas for eikaiwas. I'd love to go back, but its not financially viable at this juncture. That, and my Japanese is pretty piss poor now too. By the by, what section of Osaka are you staying in? Happen to be near the Tennouji or Abeno-bashi wards? |

That's also why I'm looking for some gigs as a chef at local Italian restaurants. These Japanese chefs just can NOT cut it. ![]() Quote:

Ah, the loop line. I used to be able to recite the announcements. I took the loop line the wrong way one day (my first week in Japan) and ended up being an hour late for work
![]() In any case, if you have the spare time / cash, pop by Igosso in Abeno and say hi to Toshi/Mani from Nathan ;p Its a used clothing store in the mornings, but a very laid back bar in the evenings. igossoのChipClip One of the many reasons why I want to head back to Japan. Great people there. |

Looks like an awesome place, Nathan! There's a place like that near me, actually. Right down the street is a recycle clothes shop with an awesome, laid back bar attached to it.
If you do end up coming back, let me know and I'll head over with ya! なんてしつけいいこいいけつしてんな。 |

GTJ, i'm with you on your frustration. i know it wasn't a competition at the interview but i did feel like a good candidate among the rest to land a position. i was prepared, professional and polite (excuse the alliteration). i'm not saying i was perfect because looking back there were definitely things i could work on, plus i didn't study that much for the grammar test which could have possibly broken the deal for me.
i wore a 2 button grey suit, white shirt and black tie, clean shaven, short haircut. leather bound folder with my lesson and handouts ready to go...i thought i was money. come to find out Aeon is actually shifting their male appearance to stand out more. they advise to ditch the dark suits and wear brighter/softer color suits when working for them (something i understood but left me scratching my head a little). I am located in the U.S. now and don't feel like risking my current position for a chance at landing a job. i want to have one before i go. hopefully i'll do well at ECC. |

What's the reasoning for shifting the appearance criteria?
You'll find that appearance plays a stupidly large roll here. Apparently it all depends on what the customers will be intimidated by, so they usually want you to be skinny, clean-shaven, short haircut, meek demeanor, etc. Basically, if you have your own personality, can it. I have a hard time with this, which is why I'm sticking to small, local, independent schools. なんてしつけいいこいいけつしてんな。 |
