3 months accommodation wanted -
01-05-2010, 09:41 PM
All,
I'm looking for 3 months accommodation or longer for 2 people. Ideally an apartment and in or around Tokyo, yet we can easily not be based in that part of the country. Any ideas or suggestions. There seems to be a fee for this and a fee for that. Thanks A |

Best way I've found to get an apartment in Tokyo is to go through agencies that specialise in short term stays for foreigners. I would recommend Sakura House. They mostly provide Guest Houses, which are a type of shared housing, but they also have a lot of apartments on offer as well, in all parts of Tokyo.
If you try to obtain an apartment through a strictly Japanese real estate it can be really expensive. The local etiquette here is to give the agent a few months rent up front as a gift! Definitely check out Sakura House, and i'm sure there are other similar websites but I just can't think of them. |

General Prices and living cost Prices and living cost in Japan Gaijin House´s: Home the one i stayed (quite nice!) Oakhouse | Guest House Tokyo, guesthouse, room rent in Japan and a site with appartments so that you could see into the prices. They might have something reasonable but im not sure if you can rent it on a temporary visa: Tokyo Apartments -Reasonable Apartment Accommodation Guesthouse i heard alot of bad things about sakura house guesthouses, so dont stay there! Their apartments might be ok, havent heard about that, only guesthouses. |

If you want convenience and ease of dealing with them, then I would recommend Sakura House. |

Yeah i think Sakura is ok as well but i just heard some stories from other travelleres and they were not so nice. Especially someone said that they wouldn´t rent to Japanese people and i think thats just wrong. If i live in Japan i´d like to live in a normal envoirment where i can meet Japanese as well and enjoy there culture and everything and not lock myself away in a gaijin-only house. Its nice to meet other travellers because you eventually run into the same problems as them but every guesthouse hase some gaijin so thats not a problem. I had the best time during christmas in my guesthouse and it was nice to see how Japanese celebrate Christmas.
I wanted to stay in a place with Japanese people as well and i had heard about tiny rooms and everyday parties in Sakura-houses, so i decided to not stay with them. I decided to stay with Oakhouse because they had a very good offer for a 3 month stay. They repeat this offer for new tennants every few month and its usually the cheapest you can get for a decent sized single room in a guesthouse around Tokyo. I do believe that it is possible to get a positive experience with sakura house as well, sorry if i sounded different, but it just wasn´t what i was searching for when i was in Tokyo. |
