Shipping Companies - 03-04-2010, 01:41 AM

I would be interested to know your experience with moving to Japan and shipping your household goods.

What company did you use and why?
Were there any problems with the customs paperwork?
What was good and bad with the company you decided to use.

I am in the San Francisco area and will be using a local company, which are many. Nittsu Nippon Express is a big one here and so is Yokohama Express. We contacted Nittsu and they seem to have bubbleheads working for them. That was a concern, which we don't want or need.

Any assistance would be useful. Thanks in advance.

There are many shipping companies available. Nippon Express was in fact the largest freight forwarder in the world, measured by revenue, however, believe that now too belongs to Sinotrans.

I used a local freight forwarder for packing and shipping my stuff to Japan to Yokohama port. I arranged Yokohama port to my home with MovingJapan.com (owned by a company called Vancombe Inc)

Ref your questions about import of personal affects, MovingJapan.com has a moving guide here --> MovingJapan.com - Moving Guide

Good luck!
