Questions about Japan's health business -

Hello, I've known this forum for a long time but never registered, but now I have a question that only you guys can answer. I already used the search function but my situation is quite special, so I couldn't find any answers.
I'm a brazilian-african (what we call "mulatos": something between black and white) transexual person, already assumed and I'm pretty enough to easily pass. I'm studying nursing into a good university, have the money to go for a postgraduate education, I'm fluent at english and have the wealth to study whatever else I need. The problem is: I met another transexual person, with an awesome curriculum, but can't get a job here thanks to homofobia. She's going to move to France and try her luck there. And I don't plan staying into this crappy country, anyway. Here's my question: would I be succesfull as a nurse (or even higher ranked professional) in Japan? I don't think that being a transexual would be a problem since I'll get the sex reassigment surgery soon, and change my documents. I'm concerned because I'm brazilian (I've heard they have some kind of xenophonia against brazilians) AND I'm "black", although cute. I want to know now if it's possible, so I would restart learning japanese to become fluent at their language in time. If it isn't possible, then I would study french and travel to France, Canada, USA or whatever, just want to get the hell outta here. Japan's just my first choice. Thanks for reading. |

Basically,Japan doesn't accept foreigners as nurse.Although there is a Medical Services Visa.
Only Filipino and Indonesian can be accepted as a nurse. There are Economic Partnership Agreement between Japan and that two countries. They should get training and pass the exam in Japan. This program started recently. Only 3 foreigners passed the last exam. 251 of them couldn't pass.On the other hand,90% of Japanese passed. It is difficult for foreigners to pass the exam in Japanese. If you have already Japanese permanent residency(like zainichi Korean or Chinese),you can be nurse in Japan. But you should pass the exam too. Japanese Brazilian can get visa easily. On the other hand, normal Brazilian can't get Japanese visa with which they can work in Japan easily. I'm sure you don't know any Brazilian(mulato or not, transexual or not) working as a nurse in Japan.I(native Japanese) don't know too. |

I think allhailhata and sarasi have answered your questions regarding to being a nurse in Japan, so I would like to give you a few advice if you want to come to Canada.
I would say, it's a lot easier for you to be a nurse in Canada than in Japan, except that I don't know if nursing school accepts international students. (I know medical school does not accept international students at all, and law school as well? I am a computer science student so I never care about this) If you can get your way to come to Canada, you can go to either nursing school in universities, or colleges which provide nursing program (such as St Lawrence College in Kingston, or... sorry please find it yourself... I have a friend who studies nursing in St Lawrence now, that's why I know it). Canada is in shortage of nurses, therefore I think Canada welcomes you more than Japan does (totally no offense, I mean it). Most Canadians are friendly and open-minded. You know what, same-sex marriage is even granted and recognized in Canada. So you will be more comfortable living in here. Good luck and all the best. It seems that my question in the other thread is ignored or no one can answer it for me, I will ask it here again. How's the situation about medical computing in Japan? Is there any university doing research and providing undergraduate/postgraduate study on medical computing and biotechnology? And is there any company developing this? (I know Toshiba medical is doing something related but I don't think its base is in Japan) Medical computing is a newly developed science which includes computer-assisted surgery, medical image processing and clinical used software... etc. |

ITEM in JRC 2010 島津製作所によるレポート JRC2010 Toshiba medicalによるレポート http://www.toshiba-medical.co.jp/tmd...ort/index.html 島津製作所も、computer-assisted surgery, medical image processing and clinical used softwareを扱っているようですね。

Come to Canada! We're always welcoming new immigrants and we need nurses! If you move to downtown Vancouver, it's pretty much like living in Japan anyways. |

spicytuna is correct- for unskilled foreigners (although of course there are skilled teachers here as well), English teaching is by far the most common job, however it is more or less restricted to native speakers.
Other fields which have a lot of foreign workers are IT and finance, but those jobs require previous experience as well as good Japanese skills. There are also a lot of foreign bar hostesses here, but a large number of those are here illegally. Japan is not a country of immigrants like Brazil, the US or Australia for example, therefore it's not that easy to come here to work unless you're a native English speaker with a degree. |
