I have been to Japan several times and have personally seen this. Most of these places are juicy bars and not worth your time anyways. They do like their privacy and a lot of them don't like foreigners, but they are generally polite about it.

I seriously don't blame some places in japan to do this to foreiners though! Japan is so different than nearly all other countries that very few foreiners take the time to learn their customs and respect them! I can see some japanese ppl not wanting to deal with foreiners because of disrespect issues...

Unfortunately there is racism where ever you go in this world. One country it seems is not any better than another. What we have to do as a human race is try and get along. Accept each others differences, then this world would be a much better place to live.

Everything shown in the video is true but taken WAY out of context. I lived in Camp Zama Japan for 2 years and I can tell you that the signs are quite common. Most of the signs shown in the video are on the Night Clubs. Most of them are probably outside of Tokyo too. The further you get from Tokyo or Osaka or Okinawa (areas used to dealing with foreigners) the more likely you are to see them..

Here's why:

One reason is real prejudice (which is not the same as racism) Prejudice is to Pre Judge a situation based on your existing knowledge and experience. As I stated before, most of those signs are on night clubs. Those clubs have had past experiences with gaikokujin who have been rather rowdy and have caused trouble. Because of this, they simply put a blanket ban on foreigners. This is quite common around Camp Zama and it is due to a few troops that have not been able to control themselves after a few beers.

Another reason for not allowing gaikokujin is due to the language barriers and cultural differences. If you see a sign that says "No foreigners without a Japanese escort" then you know this is the case. These businesses either do not have the ability or the desire to provide the different services a gaikokujin would desire. They do not want to disrupt their other customers either. I'm an American and I'll frankly admit that I'm quite loud. I do my best to respect Japanese customs and traditions when I'm in country, but it is easy to slip up when your an ole Cajun from Louisiana. It is quite easy to make a total ass of yourself, even when you didn't intend to. If some of these businesses allowed gaikokujin, they take the risk of driving away their Japanese customers.

Just remember this. You are NOT in YOUR country. It is there country. Its their house and their rules. It might not always seem fair to you, but you need to take two steps back and take the situation under consideration.

As far as flat out racism. If you think that's racist. You have no idea what racism is. Louisiana is one of the most racists places in the US. I've seen racism first hand. Seeing a black kid strung up because he dated a white girl. That's racism my friends.

that's pretty f up video!! But you know what? I think these places are small bars owned by Japanese who speak only Japanese and prejudice.
I am sure that you don't need to deal with these places when you are there.
There are lots of bars you can go and be crazy

Japan ay?
A land of pure racism. It's drilled into them from an early age. But the wierd thing is most of them are racist in a really friendly way. They generalise & stereotype but apart from the odd twat who needs a good kicking they are all really positively friendly in their racism.
I'm speaking as a british man where the streotype is the gentleman with good manners etc etc.
Glad I'm not an American where the stereotype in Japanese minds is very bad (please blame the dregs of the US military that are posted here) Fat, Lazy, Loud Pigs. Not my words, but my friends.
You can say Japan is racist & you would be right but it's great being a foreigner in Japan, the attention you get is 90% good.
The signs in those pictures can easily be found but in a city the size of Kanto you can find a sign that says anything. 2 minutes of signs, please.
Anyway, rant over

ps I look like Tom Cruise. (of course I don't but I've heard that a lot) I take it as an insult, short little inbred freak

Just a few!

Ever go to yokosuka?
Crime rate is 3 times higher than the national average.
Swarming with american military.
My mate in the police force recently got transfered there. He now despises all americans. It's hard not to when you have to deal with the shit he has to put up with.

Heyy i can use chopsticks perfectly thanks!
Yes i do think this video is racist, but i think the person who made it is racist aswell,i mean maybe the people who own the bars cant speak western languages, and Living in a place which is a tourist magnet, the locals want something to do aswell.I mean for hundreds of years, westerners havent been allowed in certain villages in japan, the more traditional ones, where all the geikos are blahblahblah so why should they let us in now?
But if i ever visited Japan,i would go to a place where they CAN deal with tourists, like Tokyo etc.

Hope i wasnt being racist then...=/
