What kind of job are you thinking of doing?

If you're working as a teacher or the like you'll probably be wearing a suit, I doubt that your employer would ever see it in order for it to be an issue. It looks like it's on your forearm? Wear long-sleeves and no one will ever know.

From what I've heard it'll be more of an issue when using public baths or swimming pools, but even then it seems the rules about that are loosening up a little (although this is hearsay).

In recent years, Japan and its people are more tolerant with freign visitors having a tatoo.

Though to live there, it can be another story. I am not worry about you finding a job as long as you have it covered, but the effect if you are being seen with the tatoo after getting a job there.

Unfortunately, that country still associate tatoo with the Yakuza and other different type of illegal activities. Imagine the shool that hired you, think about what they will do if the school operator sees you on the street with a short sleeve and exposed tatoo?

I am not saying thats a definite case, but there is definitely the tendency of it.

To me, its one of those thing where do you want to come clean and tell them up front, explaining that the tatoo is a personal interest or would you rather take the risk of getting caught after

Or it may not be this case at all, other current Eng teacher can probably comment more, I mean, for I all I know, they could be more linient with Eng teacher now

All that I am saying is that, with my experience, and my little knowledge of Japan and its people/culture, tatoo is not widely accepted yet, and is still associated with criminal activities....

The forearm? Ouch. You are not going to be able to live in Japan and only wear long sleeve shirts. It's just too hot in most of the country.

However, tattoos are so popular among college age people (in the US at least) that I doubt large programs would reject people simply based on the fact they have ink.

typically tattoos with eikawa (english conversation school) are a no-no i'll say that much. it's just part of the dress-code. having a tattoo won't nix you from getting a job, but they say that if you have one, you MUST keep it covered.

so if you're wiling to wear the long sleeves and cover it up at work in the heat, and when you go out with co-workers, you're fine. you'll just be super hot.

But being a judgemental society like it is, if it was revealed that a candidate have body art during interview time, wouldn't that lower their chances?
