How common are earthquakes in japan - 01-14-2012, 05:59 AM

Let's face it japan has a reputation for earthquakes and it even has an effective early warning system but how common are they. Have you ever been in an earthquake? One of my friends went over to japan and there was a minor earthquake while she was asleep.

I'd say pretty common. You tend to get used to them...I guess. Surprisingly, the earthquakes didn't bother me too much...not until the tsunami/earthquake hit last year. Now that one bothered me since, at the time, I didn't know about the tsunami since our power was out. I found the aftershocks more bothersome.

There are about 15 4.0+ earthquakes in Japan a week, on average. I used to be awakened by them in Tohoku, but then I'd go back to sleep and barely remember them the next morning....
