Well I guess buying in Japan might be my best option.
I think I will have to find someone to come along and help me shop though
I'm far from fluent and I've never done any haggling before...

Maybe I can convince someone to help in exchange for letting them have the store points from my camera

if you are giving away the points and you are in osaka.. ill help you out

and yeah "KAKAKU.com" is one of the best site to compare prices.

I recently bought a digital camera(http://www.fujifilm.com/products/dig...800/index.html) in yodobashi for 20000.00 yen, luckily they have a special points promo that day. Instead of the usual 10-15% , I got 25% worth of points thats about 5000yen. Not a bad deal actually.

Actually tyler, if you are staying long in Japan, get the point card in yodobashi camera. Its free and you can use your accumulated points to buy other stuff in the store. And also the store employs English speaking Japanese staff, so you can always ask for them.

planning to get an SLR maybe from Nikon or Cannon, I am already eyeing some models, but it still not a priority now. I am still practicing with different angles...

I have my reasons for hating digital.......namely because it's too easy.....everything is just given to the photographer.......well...I don't really call it photography anymore......more like the art of shooting randomly and fixing later on the computer.....and the quality can never match that of film..........I will only go digital when I can't pay for film anymore..........

digital is really convenient for certain things.
I want to share my photos with people in Canada and digital and the internet make that easy

Getting a points card at yodobashi is a good idea. I think I'll do that!

I'll give you that I'd use it for a few things.......like water droplet shots and the like...where I need to see then and there if I got it or not...but otherwise, I am content with the good old ways...

Even though its digital its not perfect. And if you need to use a computer then as you say that is no longer photography. One advantage of using a digital is , you can take as much picture as you want with different setting without paying much for the film.

Well both types of photography has its own advantage and disadvantage .

IAmKira, what is the usual theme of your photo?

hey nothing wrong with sticking with film! Just two different approaches both with pros and cons.

I don't mind film, but digital is the best choice for me considering what I would use it for.

Samokan, I heard that the Nikon D40x is a good entry level SLR. My sister has a D50 that I've played with and that seems pretty good.

I'm glad kakaku was mentioned. I had never heard about it before this thread and after checking it out it looks like it will be a pretty big help.

Its also good to know that there are english speaking salespeople since I would want to get a camera soon after I arrived in Osaka. That'll help!!

@ samokan....I love working in B&W.......my fav to shoot are landscapes, and I also like abstract...but put me in the middle of a forest, and I'll go insane!!!!!!....you'd have to pry my camera away from my cold dead fingers to get me to stop shooting in that kind of setting.....
