Geez you guys can kick me to the curb, I only did three years and it seems like forever since Ive been home. I just got out on Sept-29 but it took 3 days to get back home =/, but it seems like nothing has changed since I left. I left with nothing and came back to nothing Haha!. Any of you thinking of getting a job right out of the military?, I'm looking for one since I'm not in the military anymore.

I served in the Army for 6 years, and left as an E6 (staff sergeant).

My MOS was 91A/91B (it changed while I was serving, and has since changed again), otherwise known as medic, or combat medic.

I completed medical training, jump school, and then Ranger training before being assigned to one of the Ranger battalions. Afterward, I was assigned to an MP unit, and then to a medical unit. My last unit was the 30th AG, or reception battalion at Ft Benning (a fun assignment).

There isn't much to do in New Mexico. It's a beautiful state, but not exactly the land of opportunity. If I were you, I would apply with the Border Patrol, they are one of the few agencies that is really hiring at the moment. You should have received (or will receive soon) a package detailing how to obtain employment once you leave military service. The military will supply assistance with resumes, and provide the names and addresses of agencies and employers who prefer to hire veterans.

As a police officer in California, the last thing I would ever do would be to suggest a career in the border patrol. I always respect Sangetsu's posts, but the border patrol will leave you frustrated and sick. If you want a career in law enforcement and there are several avenues. But border patrol agents are routinely ordered not to do thier job. The pay isn't as good as it could be and it will lead to frustration.

p.s. Sorry to but-in in a military folk thread, but it's one of my subscriptions and I really think the border patrol would be a bad route to go (although I'm all for controlling the border as strictly as possible).

Fair enough. I too know a few people who are in the Border Patrol and are not exactly happy, but I know others as well that enjoy the work. If you are looking for a job opportunity in New Mexico, you'll find that law enforcement pays dismally at best, and even then, getting a job depends more on who you know than what you know.

I worked in law enforcement myself, and though I couldn't complain much about my pay, it was not the kind of thing I could see myself doing for another 15 years. I worked in one of the more dangerous neighborhoods in America, and working in such a place every day was almost as bad as having to live there.

I enjoy my new job in Japan, working for relatively lower pay, but in a much cleaner and safer environment. I enjoy not having to carry a gun every day, and not having to deal with the stupidity, ignorance, and plain old evil I had used to have to put up with on a daily basis.

Dealing with these people here are hard too, they think there big fish in the sea and try acting like gangsters but really there country pumpkins compard to gangs in NewYork or L.A.
I was thinking of becoming a cop but I'm not sure if they will allow me with my records . Although one of the people there said that I have a good chance of getting a job.
I'll probley wait for the info packet to come in and see what offers I can get, I was looking at a job for teaching either High school or University. Then again I'm thinking about moving to japan so I might try to find a job that branches out there.
Thanks everyone for the info.

Hey all, I added those guys that were in the military or still in the military to my buddy list, so some day you may get a “out of the blue” PM, or something like that.

Glad to see I'm not the only one here.

Okay, keep in tough, and we can talk sometime about military stuff.

Peace!
