Don't you mean "日本人のともだち"

Or, "Nihon jin no tomodachi"

"Nihon no tomodachi" basically means "Japan friend."

Just throwing that out there.

It's perfectly correct and natural to say 日本のともだち.

I think I'm more concerned that s/he is looking for a Japanese friend trapped in a digital egg toy.

Also, yes, I'm aware it is tamagotchi...just in case you think I'm just being a nub cake.

Hahaha. True... to the original poster: you're more likely to make a friend in an egg here than a Japanese friends. I don't know many Japanese members if any. Still good luck!
