Well im an otaku from the states and knowing anyone who can teach me more about anime and manga whould be a god send. A good deal of the people i have met are not serious about anime/manga i seek somone who really and truly enjoys it.

I can't say I'm such as that. I like anime but I dont cosplay or anything. I guess it's like with Star Trek...there's a difference between trekkie and trekker. The trekkie will cosplay and talk all things star trek even learning klingon, plus attending every convention. A trekker just likes the tv show and books.

Good point!

This thread seemed to be heading toward I really like anime/manga so im an otaku and no-one around me understands me.

Otaku is just a word and can be easily replaces with others.

Geek
Trekkie
trekker
Train spotter
stamp collecter
annorak

Infact anyone anywere that has a hobby they enjoy.

I would argue you could include those that follow team sports (whatever they may be), films, music and any other subject you can think of.

An otaku is somone who obsesses over something (dosent neccerseraley have to be manga/anime or even japenese)

dont pigeon hole yourselves.

My genres as Otaku are Anime, Manga, Light Novel.

My favorites are COWBOY BEBOP, Ghost in the Shell, Berserk and Strawberry Marshmallow.
The works I'm paying attention in this season are Bakuman(バクマン), Arakawa(荒川), Ore-Imo(俺妹), Ika-Musume(イカ娘), Kami-Nomi(神のみ), Sore-Machi(それ町), Den-Yu-Den(伝勇伝) and the Index(禁書目録).

Who wanna be talking about Anime?
I'd love to hear your opinion and thoughts about Arakawa. I'm in love with that series ever since I watched the first episode.

I must admit I don't know much about the others you've mentioned. I'm only familiar with the Ghost in the Shell series. So I won't be able to do any kind of comparison...

I'm looking forward to read your answer.

Hi Oden, don't know if I qualify as a genuine Otaku but I too love Cowboy BeBop, my absolute top anime is Haibane Renmei, plus I enjoy Claymore, Xam'd (which is amazing), Claymore. Watched Appleseed for the very first time recently and loved it.

Always on the lookout for great Anime I haven't seen, got any recommendations?

I also like Kinos Journey, plus I enjoyed H2O recently as well and Elfen Lied.

I am hoping to visit Tokyo later this year or early next. I Japan!

Best,

DMgen.
