Hmm, do you mean there is literally just like a row of squares?
That could mean your computer is not set to show Chinese/Japanese symbols. Not sure how to change it though, maybe someone else here knows how. :P

Being an IT student, this falls into my area of expertise. To display Japanese or Chinese, instead of the squares, you need to download a language pack. Link to a list of instructions:

Microsoft - Language pack installation

& here's a link to a Japanese language pack for download (but don't worry. It's free lol): Microsoft - Japanese Language Pack

The language pack is for Windows XP, but if your on windows Vista, or 7, then a quick browse through should find the correct one.

Note from Cayla's Dad,
Thanks Jambo, I'll load this language pack tonight or tomorrow (its 5:00am now, too early ) this will give Cayla a better understanding.
FYI, we watched "Death Note" the other night. It was a pretty cool movie but the dubbed version was a little strange, I felt like Godzilla was going to pop out at any minute! LOL. The movie itself was interesting.

Cayla's dad,
Mike

Awesome. I was going to say if she didn't understand how it installed, to get you to help.

I've watched an episode or 2 on Youtube and it was good. It was subtitled though, as far as I can remember... lol

hi, Jampo. My dad says he installed it but does not know what to do.
Do you know how to do it or should I find out on the internet?

Go to Control Panel, into Date, Time, Language and Regional Options, and then select Regional and Language Options. Go into the Languages tab, at the top, then click Details under 'Text Services and Input Languages'. Under Installed Services, click Add and choose the language you want (Japanese, I guess. lol). To configure settings, click Language Bar under settings

It's not that they talk really fast per se; you're just not used to hearing it. M Japanese friends tell me I talk too fast sometimes when I'm just having a normal conversation with another English speaker. Or I have a friend who creates hip hop music, and he raps very slowly. I let my Japanese friends listen to it and they couldn't understand most of it (apart from the slang, but just the actual sentence structure and whatnot), even though he raps at about normal talking speed.

I'm not a cynic; I just like to play Devil's Advocate once in a while.
