Sketching allows me to fiddle around with views, angles and object placement. Usyually there is two or three versions of any given page due to this fiddling around with elements, panels, and stuff. There is no shame in sketching. In fact the great masters such as Leonardo, Michelangelo, Donatello and Raphaelo all did it ^_^
I've also did practice manga pages directly in ink though. I'll see if I can find one.
