Hi Ito! Just finished going through your thread and I think you are a great artist. Your artworks show great variety. Do not stop drawing and painting. That would be a waste of talent. Keep up the good work and I hope to see more from you!

If you're going to start art school, you'll have to leave drawing/painting anime behind for a while. Being an art student myself, I see anime artist students struggle to make it since many art teachers focus on realism rather than stylized art forms such as anime.

If I were you, I would try my hand at realism and other styles before making the choice of going to art school. Anime can be fun to draw, but it isn't going to get you anywhere, and can also give you a false confidence in your skills if you've learned to use it as a crutch.

Good luck.

It's funny, I was going to say the same exact thing.
Pretty much what Pocky said, depending on the art teacher they will say this:
"You should develop your own style, and not concentrate so heavily on that anime style."
Art teachers usually say this because in their heads all anime(characters, style and story) is either pretty similar or the same. I ignore this, but in reality I may have started drawing in that style when I was like 9, but I stopped watching anime a good... 5 yrs ago? (and plus, I'm going into animation) I mean, you don't have to stop drawing in that style, but branch out and try your hand at other styles, or hell develop your own style.
A lot of what I say looked exactly like how the original mangaka/animators drew the characters. So instead make your own characters, and just do fanart every once in a while.
