Scouting (Cub Scouts) Be Ambitous, Boys... Seeking A Few Good Boys -
09-26-2011, 08:02 AM
Dear Parents,
Would you like for your son to be involved in Scouting (in English)? The Boy and Cub Scouts of Japan is quite active in this country, but naturally the language spoken is Japanese. Boy and Cub Scouts of America have a presence in Japan, too; however, official base access is required, making it very difficult for non-military families to join. There is one alternative, however, and it is International Boy Scout (I.B.S.) Troop one, founded almost 100 years ago, making it the very first Scout Troop in Japan! I am very excited to announce that Troop 1, International Boy Scouts, Cub Scout Den 5, of Yokohama is now recruiting young boys (ages 8 to 10*). Basic information/requirements: -- *boys must be between elementary 2nd grade (or age 8) to 4th grade (or age 10) -- must be English speakers -- must purchase a Cub Scout uniform (avail. at Takashimaya for about 7,000 yen) -- must be available to meet most Sundays, 2:00 PM to 4:00 in Yamate, Yokohama (place: Yokohama Country Club & Athletic Club -- non- club members OK) -- 10,000 yen/year memberships dues -- no other sign-up fees -- Pack and Den meetings lead by very experienced leaders -- parent participation welcomed, but not required -- activities include overnight camping, hiking, and survival skills (e.g., knot tying, ham radio operation, orientation (compass) skills, community involvement (parades, charity drives, jamborees, etc.). If interested*, or in need of more information, please contact: Mike Kubo at: [email protected] I will be happy to answer any questions you might have. "Be Ambitious, Boys!" *Please act promptly as there is limited space. |
