Where's the fun in 'free love' it sounds like something a sex deprived hippy came up with to get laid, I guess foreplay is a dead art to the rest of todays generation. I'm going to go old school Catholic on everybody and say that marriage is a sacred and beautiful display of trust and unity. Thats the way my grandparents did it, the way my parents did it, and thats the way I'll do it.

If your not willing to work with the other person than whats the point?

But that's not the problem either. Divorce means that the wrong choice was made, and there is a huge lack of responsibility and/or maturity. It may be that the fault of one creates the option for the other. But then again, if this ever has to happen, then it's the fault of both. So no matter what, both are irresponsible.

Jeez, I'm re-reading what I'm writing and it sounds like I'm being a total jerk about it but...IT'S ALL TRUE (not the jerk part -.-; ).

Y'all are quite a presumptious bunch.

Who says that is should be either or?

As I said... marriage is cool... but it's just a piece of paper to me. If my significant other really wanted it and it meant a lot to her, or there were practical benefits we could take advantage of then I'd do it....

... but I'm happy being with the girl I love for the rest of my life with OR without marriage.

I like the idea of marriage (having one person for the rest of your life), but I don't like the legal aspect of it, and that's probably the thing that will keep me from getting married in the future.

I'm not for marriage but I am for commitment to one person (if you have found that person of course).
Marriage is not a necessity in my eyes, granted there's certain benefits only given with marriage (health insurance, being allowed to live with your partner in their country without any problems if you aren't a citizen, military pcs, etc.) but other than that I don't think it's necessary to get married.
My theory (which I could be completely wrong) is that some people think marriage is the best but when they do take the big step they feel like a caged animal leaving them unsatisfied and wanting out.
Granted it can work but there are some pretty high divorce rates...
And don't get me started on people who only get married because of a pregnancy...that usually does not work!!!
Oh yeah I've seen a lot of shitty marriages, maybe that's why I'm so negative about it.

Hmm yes actually you are right, when I say "Marriage" I think of living with one person on the same home, and sharing the life with that person. But marriage itself is not necessary.

It's all good for me.
I believe in marriage and all, but only if you're beyond the moon with love for someone, and you've been together long enough to know you would be able to handle life.
I'm not going to get married until I'm sure I have that person.

And Keaton421, the point of dating is so you can figure out what you like and what you don't. I agree with you on the relationship bit, though, because why tie yourself down if it's only going to be short term?
