yeah and thats why there's marriages that last a few hours this is the turnoff in marriage if marriage was still a sacred thing (not in a religious sense) then maybe i wouldn't have so many doubts about it but i still maintain that marriage is not a necessity murrrrrrrrr "If Life and Death be things that seem,

Sinestra, it's not about proving anything. There are reasons that couples decide to tie the knot. Saying boyfriend/girlfriend for the rest of my life sounds pretty immature, anyway Oh! I dont know if we have any Europeans posting right now. But i read that marriage in Europe as whole is on the the decline with more people choosing to just live and raise families together. Is there any truth to this? |

I don't need a piece of paper to show that I love someone. The fact is, it's more than a piece of paper, in many ways. If you're not married, you can't visit your "boyfriend" in the hospital if he's been in an accident. Married couples also report less stress, more happiness, and better and more frequent sex. Married men (and I hope women) receive more frequent promotions and make more money at work. And the tax breaks, hoo boy.
If you're going to be with someone for the long haul, marriage is the smart thing to do. Saying "we don't need paper to prove love" is fanciful thinking - relationships should be about more than love, shouldn't they? People have abused and defiled marriage, and people are always complaining about it (not marriage, but monogamy + co-habitation, the legal part isn't the bad thing) so I can see why this generation fears it Oh! or if they know one party is going to die it legally will ensure them part of the inheritance oh and you can get your relationship entered at the courthouse (i guess that's the equivalent) so you can have certain benefits with the hospital and things like that murrrrrrrrr "If Life and Death be things that seem,

I say do what you want if you want to get married and its not just for tax benefits or some other mute point and 2 people truly care about each other and want to share their life together then im all for it. However that seems to be rare nowadays I dont find marriage scary at all i would welcome it with the right person. What i fear is the staggering number of divorces in this country thats the scary part. |

Actually the divorce rate is down and has been dropping in the US since the peak in the 80s at about 50%. Now it is closer to 40% which is still really high, but keep in mind a lot of those people get remarried, then divorce again, so 40% of marriages end in divorce doesn't mean that 40% of people who get married also get divorced. It is lower than that. Also the divorce rate drops dramatically for first marriages between people who are over the age of 25.
