you're not a horrible person, it's just that you felt bad when he started to stop sending you
letters, i think what you did is sort of a reverse psychology,
unfortunately you still received a cold response from him. I don't know
if he really is trying to avoid you but at least try to talk to him regarding that matter..
if nothing happens, i must say go find a new friend.
it wouldn't be easy but you'll get through this in time..
