Not an expert, that looks to me like a ninjato.

I thought what I'd do was, I'd pretend I was one of those deaf-mutes

thx for the reply, after I looked on it myself, I can say that it is indeed a ninjato, just one last question, what do the word/symbol mean? since a friend asked me, but I don't know. someone? ^^

The sword looks like a typical Chinese made Ninja type sold at cutlery shops and flea markets. The character on the stand "忍" is the first half of the word "忍者", or "ninja".

Means "to hide and persevere".

I wouldn't call this a Japanese sword. The designing doesn't look Japanese at all.

Early Japanese swords were actually straight like this one. Improvements in design and tempering techniques resulted in the later curved-blade swords.

I told ya. Anyone who says it's a Japanese sword or it's a ninja sword knows nothing about Japan. As I said above, a ninja had to hide all the time wearing dark clothes and mask. How do you hide when you carry a long sword like that that has gold and red ornaments on it?

Carrying that sword is like saying to everyone, "Hey look! I'm here!" That is not the ninja way.

no, but it is something to "fun to have" thing, since it will cost a whole lot of money to buy a real jap sword, ofc i know that, but still if its a "nice" copy that I (my friend) is fine with it ^^

I bought a hand and a half or bastard Sword at a renasance fair several years ago. It's fully tanged, made by a professional blacksmith. It's not a pretty thing, not even very shiny, kinda dullish black with a quasi edge....However, he had an awsome sales angle. He put the blade point first in the ground and jumped on the flat of it a couple times, to show it's flexability, after wich he cut through a cinderblock to show it's strength.

Not that that has anything to do with the orginal post, it just reminded me I had the thing.
