Except that a man may also need the seat down. Therefore a woman would not be able to know which would be proper. Since 3 times out of 4 the seat would need to be down, the logical and courteous choice is to be sure the seat is always left down.

And for the odd Feng Shui practioner it should always be down and closed.

I'm not advocating that women should necessarily have to put the seat up, just that there isn't really an argument for why guys should put it down outside of courtesy. 2 out of the 3 times it needs to be down is for women, so you'd think they wouldn't never have trouble not falling into the toilet.

Toilet seats for me should be down as I get nauseous at the idea of a toilet being flushed with the lid open (icky germs) and to close the lid the seat needs to be down. Other than that I don't really bother about it, far more important things to get my panties in a bunch over

More of the culture of the 20s and 30s hun. I heard that from a 60 year old that is almost 70, but I agree with you sometimes on these things. Just pointing them out and letting everyone respond back. I guess girls back then thought that was flattering if a guy did that.
