Hope everyone is enjoying the winter weather. In Tokyo, we are still at the end of autumn (tree leaves are orange & yellow). It's hard to believe Christmas is already so close!

As some of you may have noticed, Japan Forum has been under a heavy spam attack recently. Sorry for the annoyance. We are working on upgrading the software to deal with it.

Some of the JF mods have been unhappy with the spam situation and they have decided to launch their own Japan-friendly forum called JapanLogic. We wish them the best and hope that their site is a big success! Anything that promotes Japan and Japanese popular culture is good news.

We are continuing our work on upgrading the software here at Japan Forum and things should be back to normal in the next few days.

While I am really glad to see you back, there is a lot more than just the spam attack causing problems. The board goes down periodically with DB errors - likely due to the huge back log of spam messages that have been removed but not deleted... And the massive number of spam members. I also get errors on any attempt to contact the administration, so feel this is likely the only possible way to contact you.

The entire board needs an overhaul with the database cleared and inactive members removed, and logs checked regularly. Without doing these things, and without an active and present administrator, it is unlikely to change for the better.

If you abandon the forum, the forum will likely abandon you. Unfortunately, at the rate you visit us, the next time you come back to read these messages, we'll be inaugurating a new President of the USA. (Jan 2013)

I sincerely hope your "promise" to update the website will come to fruition....
